PLAN DESCRIPTION & WALKING TOUR
The Burnham is based on a classic front-facing gable design which presents an upright, vertical profile to the street. With it’s supporting cross-gable lending support, and an entry porch tucked into the corner it is at once formal yet inviting - a home of quiet dignity that delights owners and passers-by alike.
As we approach the front steps to the front door we notice the beautiful detail on the porch rails and bracketing - and find ourselves on a cozy entry porch protected from the elements. Entering takes us to the vestibule, where you’ll kick off your shoes or hang your coat, all with a view of the stair tower which filters light down from above.
Arriving by car takes you up the driveway to the side door, possibly to a garage, then up a small set of steps opening directly to the mud room and combined laundry area.
The main space of the home places the sitting areas up front, as in many traditional designs, but departs from tradition by stretching out to encompass a dining nook and fully modern kitchen, complete with island and well-concealed refrigerator and pantry cabinets.
You’ll be happy to discover your ‘away’ place in the flexible office / nursery / guest room, just off the main living space but separated enough to provide the privacy these functions require.
Passing through a short hallway, past the laundry, takes us to the private Master suite, which comes with a large walk-in closet and a private bath, which can be configured with one or two sinks. Views of the back yard and garden make the room feel exrtra special - and some even add a private deck with french doors to the back fo the home for the master suite.
Back to the main room, a prominent stair lives in it’s own tower - surrounded by windows above, the sun will dance and change throughout the day bringing drama and excitement to the stair and the rooms which surround it.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, equally sized, which share a full bath. The bathroom has an optional pocket door divider, which allows simultaneous use of the shower and sinks, while maintaining privacy.
If you’re building in areas of the country with basements, you’ll happily find further space for workshop, storage, and leisure spaces.

Let’s Add a Room or More: Less often, but often enough, the change involves adding a room - like a sunroom or covered porch - or expanding the footprint of the house to enclose more space - for this pick 'adding a room or more'
